142 The Unforgettable Moments in Life
always a long line that takes forever. “This line looks like it will last til our last days on
earth,” says my niece, who is one day younger than me.
Afterward, ladies start serving food to every table, and it takes about six or
seven ladies to serve because of the number of people in the building. Some people eat
last because there is a shortage of food and a lot of demand. There is an order to what
groups eat first and which are last. Teenagers are, of course, last. I couldn’t wait to eat. I
was starving, and my stomach kept on growling to the point where I was losing my
patience. I could smell yummy chicken, rice, noodles, salted raw fish, and delicious
soup. The drink I would always choose is water because, without water, I wouldn’t feel
COMPLETE. I sometimes drink Coke, Kool-Aid, or juice, but that would be the only
three drinks I would choose.
Next, we all wait until everyone is done eating. That’s when the speaker tells us
the program is about to start and says the order of each state. Every state has its own
uniform, either a hand-made dress or shirts with skirts, but in my family, we would wear
shirts because the fabric for dresses comes from Hawaii and has to be ordered
sometime around November since it takes forever to ship here. After everyone finishes
eating, the first state stands up and waits til the music starts to begin dancing. As for
me, I don’t watch or anything. I either use my phone or talk with my church friends. Of
course, we can’t hear each other because of the loud music, so we have to yell at each
other! We say, “HUHH?!!!” while everyone cheers for whoever is performing.
“CHEEHOOOOOO!!” they yell. After each program ends, they have to stand at the
front and sing Christian songs that are about the 25th. After that, they make a huge
