Comment:
1. This cream produces a soothing and cooling effect when applied to the
skin. The cooling effect being produced by the slow evaporation of the
water content of the cream which takes its latent heat of evaporation from
the skin.
2. Type of emulsion:
- On triturating borax solution with fat, its NaOH yield would react with
the free fatty acids of olive oil (e.g. olic and linoleic). Soap produced
form o/w emulsion.
- On further interaction, NaOH reacts with the free fatty acids of
beeswax. Theses forms of soap lead to the formation of w/o emulsion
as the fatty chain prevail the sodium tail in their capacity.
3. It is important to heat aqueous phase to about the same temperature of the
fat. If the aqueous liquid is added cold, it would cause rapid congealation
of the high melting point fast of waxes and the product would be lumpy.
