Blade Shaving Creams

• They are classified into:
   1) Brushless shaving cream.
   2) Brush shaving cream (lather shaving cream).

                   Brushless Shaving Creams

• These are oil in water emulsions and usually consist of mineral oil emulsified
   in water with a stearic soap. The creams should have the following properties:
   1) They must keep the beard moist during the shave.
   2) They must lubricate the movement of the razor over the beard.
   3) They must spread easily over the face.
   4) They must be easily rinsed from the face.
   5) The perfume must be correct for the particular emulsion.

• The creams could contain stearic acid, an alkali such as caustic sodium or
   triethanolamine to neutralize the stearic acid.

• The oil phase consists of liquid paraffin of white petrolatum jelly, lanolin, or
   acetyl alcohol. Glycerine is the humectant.
