A Manicures and pedicures are some of the most popular treatments per-
formed in beauty salons. They get rid of' dead cuticles and side skin around
K nails, callosities and corns.
Manicurists and pedicurists are cosmetologists who are specialised in the
E
cosmetic care of hands and feet. They are also called nail technicians.
They must soak2, clean, and massage hands and feet, then do fingernails
u and toenails in order to make the client feel good and beautiful.
Nail technicians must learn pedicure and manicure techniques step-by-
P step, including precautions and techniques in specific massages. In addition
to that, they must learn about bloodborne pathogensr, parasitesr, funguss
or bacterial infections that they may encounter during their work. They
must specialise in disinfection6 and sanitising techniques for safely performing all treatments.
A manicurist is a cosmetologist who takes care of hands. This involves soaking the hands or fingers
and gently massaging them with lotion, shaping fingernails, decorating them, and applying nail exten-
sions or fake nailsT.
As far as feet are concerned, a pedicure is the shaping and decoration of toenails, together with pos-
sible special exfoliation services and footbaths. Nail extension and polishing8 can be provided too,
together with foot massage.
In addition to applying all beauty treatments for hands and feet, mainly for fingernails and toenails,
nail technicians must clean and sanitise their tools and work area. Careful nail technicians sterilise all
of their tools each time and put them in a steriliser cabinet, then wipee them with alcohol before using
them. They must wipe the chair and rinse the pedicure tub and manicure bowl with disinfectant too.
The manicure and pedicure trolley must be provided with all the tools that may be needed. Some of
the tools used during a manicure or a pedicure are nail scissors, nail clippers, cuticle knife, cuticle
nippers, cuticle pusher, nail buffers, corn planer, callus remover, emery boards, orange sticks, and
toe separators.
There must be a bowl for water, a pedicure tub, foam slipperst', disinfectant, cot- g+fÉnt'oa
ton wool pads, towelettes, special creams and oils, nail-polish remover, base coat,
<}
and coloured nail polishes too. fJ
