We realized that we needed to escape this building right
now. The police had already been called but it would arrive
in 5 minutes. So, the next 5 minutes of our lives would
determine our fate.
After the banging stopped, we all started to remove the
tables and chairs. My legs were weak and my stomach was
in a mess. Eventually, we had a free exit, and at the count
of three, we will all run to the entrance as quickly as
possible. 1,2,3.. And sprinted. I ran anxiously because, at any
moment, the shooter could take my life. As I was running in a
long hallway, I heard screams coming from the end followed
by gunshots. I froze for a second before I ran as fast as I
could but the shooter was coming closer and closer. I knew I
had to think of something. Then I saw it, a lifeless body on
the ground lying covered in blood. I backed up for a second
before I knew what I had to do. I lay down next to the body
hoping that the shooter would run past me and assume that
I was dead. As I lay there I cried not only for me but for this
soul lying dead beside me. They had a life, a future ahead
of them, all ruined because of someone with a weapon.
Then I heard footsteps, and I froze. As the footsteps got
closer and closer, my heart beat faster and faster. I can
hear my heart pounding in fear and I hope and pray that I
will be able to live. After 10 excruciating seconds of my life,
the footsteps fade away. After I am sure that they have left
the area for good, I stand and just as I was about to run, I
pay respect to this soul.I run and run and in my state of
panic, I hear the softest help. I stop in my tracks and
frantically look around and there I spot in the corner a girl
that had been shot in the arm. Blood was everywhere and
the girl looked pale and weak. I ripped off my sock and
wrapped it tightly around the arm to stop the bleeding. We
started to head to the exit and the police were going to
arrive in a minute. Now it was us versus the shooter.
