A Trip Gone Wrong…

October 9, it was Ram's favorite time of the year! Dashain had

finally started. The biggest festival in all of Nepal. It was quite

unusual for 10-year olds like Ram, to be so intrigued in their culture

and religion, but Ram was a very religious boy, fascinated by the

wonders of his country’s cultures, religions and practices.

Ram lived alone with his mother, his dad had passed away when

he was just four years old. He, and his mother had a lot planned

for this Dashain; they would go to one of the biggest temples in

Nepal, Pashupatinath. Ram was very excited, this was his first time

ever going there, in all ten years of his life. His mind was stuck to

the beautiful and intricate architecture, and the different statues

that he would see there. What he did not know was that things

would not go as smoothly as he expected.

Ram was quite smart for his age- his teachers and friends all

found him quite odd. Instead of watching TV, or playing with toys,

Ram would delve into encyclopedias and story books, finding new

things every day. His mother however, absolutely adored him, he

was her world and when Ram asked to go to Pashupatinath, she

     agreed without hesitation.

Ram and his mother entered Pashupatinath in a taxi. Even though

he knew that it would be crowded during this time of the year,

Ram was shocked. “Oh my God! There are so many people here! I

never expected it to be this crowded!” Ram cried aloud, while his

mother laughed, looking at her son’s shocked face.

They went around, Ram looked at everything, the shops, the

temples, the statues, the people praying. His eyes gleamed with
