Destinity Unreached

I looked around at the broken remains of the bus, flame and smoke

trailing around the sky. I stared in disbelief at the sheer carnage of

the crash I had just witnessed. How could a simple school trip have

gone so wrong? How could we have gone as far down as this? This

seemed impossible. It was a fine day, 4th of November, 2022. We

were going on a three day long trip to Lumbini. We were extremely

excited for this, having waited for this for entire months. We came to

school early, around 6:30 am. We moved, starting the soon to be 7

HOUR JOURNEY at around 7 o'clock. At around 9 o'clock, we went to

eat. We ended up eating at Blue Heaven Cafe, and continued our

journey. But something went wrong almost immediately. I was asleep,

but all I felt was the constant rocking of the bus, moving rapidly, and

the sudden screech of halting tires, a sudden pregnant pause. This

was instantly ruined by the groaning of metal, and by this point I was

fully awake, looking around. All I could see before rushing down was

meeting the terrified gaze in Naman’s eyes, then everything went

     dark.

As I gazed, terrified, I saw something moving over the distance.

Images of bodies burned beyond recognition filled my mind. I

convulsed, throwing up, looking in disbelief as red mixed in with my

puke. My throat was bleeding. I felt something warm drip down my

forehead. Rain? No, rain was not warm. And it sure wasn’t red. I felt

ready to scream, as blood ran down my face. I ran to the med kit, and

tried desperately to stitch together a gash on my forehead. Thankfully,

it wasn't too deep. I managed to successfully somehow knit together

the gash. It hurt like anything, but I could bear the pain. I was still in

the wreckage of the bus. I didn't see anyone else. Were they…. No, I

couldn't afford to think such thoughts in a time like this. I slowly moved

around, climbing out of the wreckage with charred hands.

                                                                                                                 40
