Items listed in Part 9 of the Drug Tariff require an endorsement to identify which
BRAND has been dispensed to identify a price point whereas the 0.32% are listed
as a generic medicine in Part 8 and as such the price of £4.99 will be paid regardless
of what is dispensed.
Part 9 items have been licensed as appliances rather than medicines hence the
listing in that part of the Drug Tariff. If you look they will carry a CE mark on the
packaging which is an indicator of an item being an appliance.
All Part 9 items require enough information on the prescription to enable the exact
price to be identified for reimbursement.
My advice would be to analyse the brands allowable from the Drug Tariff and decide
which is the most profitable for you and then prescribe by brand when you want
to prescribe and dispense Hypromellose 0.3% drops. The same would go for 0.5%
drops as they too are listed in Part 9.
