What I get asked

              most in practice!

              By Caroline Pond

“ Someone at PSUK asked me the other day ‘What are

the most common queries that come into the mailbox?’
I immediately said ‘PAIs’ which I have to say constitute
at least half of the questions that come to me via
email or when I am on the road facilitating study days.

Thereafter, I think it will be handling
              concessions and endorsing prescriptions
which come joint second and so, given
that I have written recently on Personally
Administered Items and VAT, I thought an
article to refresh knowledge on concessions
              and endorsing would be useful.

              Let’s start with price concessions
              and understanding what they are
              and why they occur.

              What is a price concession?

              When dispensing contractors cannot source
a drug at or below the reimbursement price
as set out in the Drug Tariff, the Department
of Health and Social Care (DHSC) can
introduce a price concession at the request
of Community Pharmacy England (CPE). A
price concession can be requested for any
drugs listed in Part VIIIA, Part VIIIB and Part
              VIIID of the Drug Tariff.
