Its not just about the generics…

        Wherever you choose to buy your generics, you will make
        a profit in the dispensary.  It is not this area of your
        purchasing that will hurt your margin if you get it wrong.
        The most expensive outlay for you will be on branded
        products – and with much lower standard discounts on
        these lines – if there is not an MDS available you will be
        making a loss.  Making 10% loss on an item that costs
        £100 can make a real difference to margin and outweigh
        any benefits you are getting from your generics.
        It is therefore really important that you regularly review
        your branded prescribing to see if there are any other
        options that can benefit the practice, and utilise the
        tools on offer from your PSUK account manager such
        as Boost tables and the new PAD guide.  These tools can
        give you valuable insight in to discounts and profit on
        products in specific therapy areas and drive real benefits
        to your bottom line.
