The point I’m making here is that
you need to audit your staff costs
and make sure you are not using
all the potential profit on fees on
excess staff hours. If you are then
the NI and wage hike are going to
hit you hard and may make your
dispensary unsustainable.
A very important point here is to make sure you are looking at staff hours for DISPENSING
only. If dispensers are processing prescription requests or carrying out other admin duties
for the practice, then you need to deduct those hours from your dispensary staff hours
before you do your sums. Any tasks that would remain, should you close your dispensary, are
practice admin hours and you need to be clear in your accounts that this is the case, when
you are analysing dispensary profitability.
If you find yourselves overstaffed, then my advice would be to examine your dispensary
processes and work out why managing your workload is costing you so much. We do not
want the workload to be excessive such that staff struggle to keep up but at the same time
we are all in the same boat and if one practice can manage with the recommended hours
then you need to work out why your team can’t, if that is the case.
