Two separate models of hub-and-
spoke dispensing will be implemented:
Proposal 1: Spoke-Hub-Spoke
This model allows patients to present prescriptions at
a spoke dispensary. The label data is then sent to a
central hub for assembly before being returned to the
spoke dispensary for patient collection or delivery.
Proposal 2: Spoke-Hub-Patient
In this model, patients also present prescriptions at a spoke
dispensary, but the assembled prescriptions are delivered
directly from the hub to the patient, bypassing the spoke
dispensary after the initial prescription handover.
Additionally, a further proposal suggests allowing
prescriptions to be dispensed in original packs, with split
packs rounded up or down by 10%. This could streamline
the dispensing process and reduce waste.
By allowing prescriptions to be dispensed in original packs,
the dispensary can unlock several advantages.
Increased efficiency: Utilising original packs
will speed up the workflow, allowing staff to
handle more prescriptions in less time.
Reduced waste: Rounding up or down by 10%
means fewer partial packs will be discarded,
thereby reducing medication waste.
Cost savings: By reducing waste and
increasing efficiency, dispensaries can achieve
significant cost savings. These savings can be
reinvested in other areas of patient care and
operations.
More focus on patient care: With the
streamlined process, there can be more time
dedicated to patient consultation and care,
improving the overall patient experience.
