577 Cheryl Yvonne HOMER (1962- ) (Inducted 1.8.2011; resigned in 2019
owing to ill health.) Foster Carer. She is a registered Foster Carer since
2004, looking after difficult children and transforming their lives. She also
assists with her husband Stephen’s dental technician business. He was a
long-time member of Brierley Hill Rotary Club. Previously Cheryl was a
Charity Fund Raising manager, including for Action Heart in Dudley. She is
a local girl, having been born in Rowley Regis, lived in the Dudley area, and
is now at Bobbington. She is involved with the local school Parent-Teachers
Association and the village hall committee, and is a fine cook.
578 Simon William RUTTER (1967- ) (Inducted 22.8.2011; left during 2013-14 on changing business.)
Shopfitting. Director of Two Jays Enterprises Limited, shopfitters based
at the Pensnett Trading Estate, Kingswinford. The firm was founded by
his father Bill (now a member of Ellesmere Rotary Club, Shropshire).
Simon joined it in 1984 from school, rose to be Works Director and took
over running the business on his father’s retirement in 2002. From April
2013 he transferred his activities to STM Contracts based in Bromsgrove
and during 2014 voluntarily wound up Two Jays. Simon lives in
Wednesfield where he helps coach the Wednesfield Wolves junior
football teams.
579 Nigel THOMAS (1965- ) (Inducted 1.8.2011; left on 30.6.2012 because promoted to a national
post with his firm.) Electrical Engineering. Specification Engineer and
Marketing Manager with ABB Limited, Coventry but resident in
Kingswinford. ABB is a Swedish-Swiss multi-national company and a
world leader in fields of electrical engineering, automation and robotics.
Other than a few years from 2003 when his home was in Kinver, Nigel
has always lived in Kingswinford. He attended Kingswinford School and
also studied at the University of Wolverhampton and later at Sandwell
College. His early career included periods as an engineer with Johnson.
Poole & Bloomer in Stourbridge and Sir Alexander Gibb & Partners in
Birmingham. He then moved into the field of electrical engineering and automation products, in
turn as Sales Engineer with MEM Limited of Birmingham (from June 1992); Sales Manager for
the Installation Division of Elsag Bailey Process Automation (from January 1996); Midland Region
Sales Engineer with Schneider Electric of Telford (from August 1998); and Business Development
and Marketing Manager with Alcester-based national electrical and mechanical contractor EiC
Limited (from October 2001). He joined ABB in October 2008 and successive promotions saw
him move from regional to national responsibility: first as Specification Sales Engineer -
Midlands; then national Building Services Segment Sales Manager (from March 2012); National
Specification Sales Manager (from April 2014), and National Specification & Projects Sales
Manager (from July 2016).
