I venture that these children, even at their age, have an enviable bond. My inspiration for this piece came
from the sweetness of their smiles, the mischievousness in their eyes, and their apparent love and
protection of one another. They drew me in to want to play with them and hold a conversation about who
they are, where they’ve been, where they’re going. What are their favorite things? They make me smile
and have a tenderness toward them.
It’s hard to say what their past was, but the light in their eyes, happy affection on their faces, and clear
familial closeness to one another, suggests a lifelong friendship for their future.
