Inspiration for this work came from the seeming awe in this man’s eyes and expression. Emily Dickinson
wrote “Because I could not stop for death, He kindly stopped for me. The carriage held but just ourselves
and immortality.” I believe this person was looking forward to the next adventure, whatever that would
hold. There has been a wonderful response to this tapestry. It is uncomfortable for some, with the
inherent reaction of loss and grief. Overwhelmingly, viewers of the piece have acknowledged a personal
yearning to be recipients of the invitation and welcome of the angel, as well as hold the promise of joyous
anticipation in the beyond.
