I created this piece in May when Memorial Day was heavy on my mind. My father and father-in-law were
military. One in the army and one in the navy. Both were proud to have served! I recall, as a child,
following the marching band and carrying irises from our yard in the parade from the school, across town,
to lay at the grave of the unknown soldier every Memorial Day. Taps was played, gunfire saluted fallen
soldiers, heads were bowed in prayer and memory. Respect and reverence acknowledged for those who
protect the United States of America.
