Missionary of the Year
Deloris Hampton (BROWNSVILLE A.M.E. ZION CHURCH)
DELORIS HAMPTON is the oldest of eight siblings and has been married to Thomas
Hampton since 1980. This union has made her the proud mother of two beautiful
daughters. Deloris two grandchildren, one girl and one boy, are her pride and joy. She
grew up in South Carolina and was in the U.S. Army for five years. This honoree has been
a member of the Brownsville A.M.E. Zion Church for 40 years. She loves the Lord with all
her heart and is a wonderfully blessed woman. Deloris has a heart for missions and
though this year has had its up and downs because of COVID-19, the church as a whole
has changed, but she and the members of Brownsville A.M.E. Zion Church have been
going forward helping others. Deloris Hampton believes in community service. She gives
food, such as chicken and fish, to her neighbors many times. She helped another neighbor fill one of her
seven barrels being shipped to St. Vincent a few weeks ago. Sis. Hampton has also been mailing Sunday
school books, communion sets, cards to some members. Honoree Deloris Hampton loves praying
and giving God thanks; she trusts God daily and is growing in His love . One of my favorite verses is
Psalm 121: I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the
LORD, which made heaven and earth.
Evelyn McKim (SOJOURNER TRUTH A.M.E. ZION CHURCH)
Mrs. Evelyn McKim joined the A.M.E. Zion Church at an early age in Columbia,
South Carolina. She is a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School, and
she attend Hampton Institute in Virginia. There came a time that Mr. and
Mrs. McKim moved to New York City where she joined Greater Hood A.M.E.
Zion Church and remained a faithful member for several years. Sometime
later, Mrs. McKim moved to Queens. It was there that Mrs. McKim and her
sister Jessie Hall found and joined Sojourner Truth A.M.E. Zion Church. She
has been a faithful member throughout the years. Active with the Sunday
School, Trustee Board, Class Leaders, a Missionary, President of the
Stewardess Board and always a willing worker. She has received numerous
awards and citations for her devotion and dedication to the A.M.E. Zion
Church. She also holds the prestigious title of Church Mother. At the age of 91, she had the privilege to
visit the Holy Land in Israel. Something that she always hoped for. During her entire life she has always
thought of others before herself. What can she do to help? Locally, she has donated clothes to drives
and organizations to help those in need. Her willingness to also participate in donating and distributing
food baskets, such as “Thanksgiving Baskets”. There was no hesitation to visit the sick and shut-in and
have prayer and fellowship. Her mission is to continue working for the Lord and encouraging people to
come closer to Christ. Life can be full of unexpected things, either happy or sad; but no matter what
happens, just keep a loving heart, wise mind, and a strong faith in God. He will always stay with us
throughout the journeys of our life. Always rejoice.
