Oftentimes deadlines are set by IRS agents in these meetings and they will come after you if you

misunderstand the deadline or what was to be provided to the IRS by the deadline. This is true even if
the IRS agent was not clear about what they needed.

Most commonly in collections cases, we see the IRS freeze a taxpayer’s bank account immediately if
they partially failed to comply with a deadline that was scheduled in a meeting.

The IRS is not required to provide any notice of the action they are going to take if a deadline is missed.

Instead, the burden is on the taxpayer to advise the IRS if they are unable to meet a deadline date and
        attempt to negotiate an alternative.

The same is true for an audit case if a deadline is not fully met. We have seen auditors close out the
audit completely with a final assessment against the taxpayer.

You must then file a petition to Tax Court to appeal this action. It is an arduous process which is why I
am keeping my advice simple here. If the IRS wants to meet with you in person – at your house, at your
business, at the IRS building, anywhere – you should hire representation to join you in the meeting.
