The burden is on you to take advantage of the IRS code available to help you and to apply it to your

situation. However, even though you may face resistance from the IRS agent in what you are trying to
accomplish, you must understand that it is nothing personal.

Getting angry and causing a commotion is not going to help. Instead, it may in fact make your situation
much worse. If you want to resolve this on your own, the only way to do it is with a calm, cool head.

The vast majority of our negotiations with the IRS are civil. We recognize the function of IRS agents

and that our purpose is to utilize tax law to help taxpayers, while the IRS’ primary goal is to protect the
interests of the government. We understand how these interests compete and we want you to
understand that too.

Be strong and organized in what you are trying to accomplish and be as civil as possible in order to
reach the best outcome.

However, if the IRS violates any of your rights listed in Chapter 9 of this book, I would not hesitate to
escalate your case in order to protect your rights.
