Procedure of 4-Hydroxy-phthalazinone Synthesis

In a 250 ml stoppered flask:

◼ At room temperature, add 0.75 gm of phthalic anhydride, then add 5 ml of

acetic acid.

◼ Then add 0.25 ml of hydrazine hydrate (2-4 drops) to the stirred mixture.

◼ Reflux using a condenser and water bath for 20 min.

◼ After completion of the reaction, cool and pour 25 ml of water into the

reaction mixture for purification.

◼ Filter to get white ppt of 4-hydroxy-phthalazinone.
