Procedure of Osazone Synthesis

In a 250 ml stoppered flask:

◼ Dissolve 0.5 gm of glucose in 5 ml water in the flask.

◼ Add 2 gm sod acetate with shaking, then add 2 ml acetic acid.

◼ Add 1 ml of phenylhydrazine.

◼ Reflux using a condenser and water bath for 30 min.

◼ Cool the reaction mixture at room temperature.

◼ To purify the product:

1. Add 50 ml of water to eliminate any byproduct.

2. Then filter to get a yellow ppt of osazone.
