Expectations of the Auditor
• Auditors should conduct themselves in professional and courteous manner.
• Prior to the audit, contact the QS Manager, or delegate, and confirm the
scope and logistics of the audit. Clearly identify any requirements to support
your audit preparation
• Conduct an opening meeting, clearly identifying the scope, timing and
auditees for the audit.
• Build a friendly relationship with the auditees, put them at ease, don’t rush
them and answer any questions they may have.
• During the auditing period, auditors should provide periodic brief's to the
auditees and QS Managers (as appropriate), informing them of the current
observations and any pending NC’s which have been identified so far. No
formal NC should be a surprise to an auditee or the QS manager.
• Be open minded with respect to changing potential findings, if additional
evidence of conformity is presented during the audit period.
• NC’s should be presented with tangible evidence of the non compliance and
classified per the definitions of AS9101 section 3.3 & 3.4
• Major: NC is detrimental to integrity of the product / service, total
breakdown of a system, results in the delivery of a NC product /
service
• Minor: NC is a single system failure or lapse in conformity to meet the
standard requirements, customer requirement, QMS requirement or
documented information as defined by the organization.
• Conduct the closing meeting in a professional manner. Be positive and
identify any best / good practice which has been identified during the audit.
For any NC’s, clearly state what the requirement is and what the objective
evidence you have to support the finding.
