VULCAN’S SAFETY POLICY (1-100)
1-100 MISSION STATEMENT
Vulcan Materials Company is an international producer of industrial
materials and commodities that are essential to the standard of living of
advanced and developing societies.
Our mission is to provide quality products and services that consistently
meet our customers’ expectations; to be responsible stewards with respect
to the safety, health, and environmental impact of our operations and
products; and to earn superior returns for our shareholders.
We recognize that success in all of our activities is directly related to the
talents, dedication and performance of employees throughout the Company.
In accordance with the commitment expressed in the Company’s mission
statement, the following policy has been approved by Vulcan’s Board of
Directors.
1-200 POLICY STATEMENT
Accordingly, the Company will:
• Strive to produce its products safely and make concern for public health
and the protection of the environment integral parts of its operations.
• Endeavor to provide its employees with a safe and healthy working
environment.
• Reduce waste, conserve energy and recycle materials, to the extent
practicable, and dispose of, or treat, waste responsibly.
• Provide education, training and leadership to employees to enable and
motivate them to understand and comply with applicable laws and with
these policies.
• Conduct reviews of safety, health and environmental practices at
Company facilities to verify compliance with applicable laws and
regulations and to identify and correct operational practices that might
impair safety, health or environmental quality at such facilities or in the
neighborhoods in which the Company operates.
• Promote responsible stewardship of the Company's products with its
carriers, distributors and customers.
• Promote the adoption of, and adherence to, sound safety, health and
environmental practices by on-site contractors and tenants, directing
where appropriate that contractors and tenants take corrective actions.
• Advocate the development of reasonable, scientifically sound and cost-
effective safety, health and environmental laws and regulations that are
based on realistic assessments of risk.
• Support and encourage the development of sound safety, health and
environmental standards and practices in the industries in which the
Company participates.
