1-419 Health hazards at most Vulcan operations are primarily physical
or respirable. Examples include: noise, respirable dust (silica),
welding fumes and/or gases, solvents, hot or cold temperatures.
Exposures are eliminated or controlled by specific engineering,
administrative or PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) controls.

1-420 Heat stress illness is primarily a function of atmosphere
temperature, humidity, workload physicality, conditioning and
personal health/fitness. Heat stress illness can be prevented
through proper training; adequate hydration and appropriate
                                      breaks in a cooler environment.

1-421 Haz-Com — The purpose of the Hazard Communication Standard
(aka Haz-Com) is to inform users of the potential hazards
associated with a product containing hazardous chemical(s). This
information can be found on the product SDS (Safety Data Sheet)
or the container label. Effective communication requires that
persons who may be exposed to hazardous chemicals be trained,
have access to, and be knowledgeable of, the safety and health
hazards associated with the product’s use. All containers must be
                                      properly labeled.

1-422 Manual Materials Handling — Avoid injury by eliminating or
minimizing awkward positions, excessive load weights, twisting
and turning movements. Try to find a better way— use a lifting
aid, adjust the grab or delivery height, and use proper lifting
techniques. When lifting, use safe lifting practices – hold your back
straight, bend your knees, get a firm grip on the object. Hold it
close to your body and space your feet for good balance. When
you lift, exert the lifting force with your strong leg muscles, not the
weaker back muscles. Never lift anything that is too heavy or
awkward. Seek help if the load is too heavy or awkward.

1-423 Demonstrate safe work behaviors. Perform work at a safe,
productive pace. Keep eyes on path, mind on task, stay out of line
of fire, and avoid horseplay of any type – specifically, fighting,
wrestling, physical or verbal aggravation, or throwing material.
These and any other similar activities are prohibited on Company
premises, job sites, on route to the job site and other work
situations, for employees either on or off the clock.

1-424 Entanglement —In operating areas or shops, do not wear loose
clothing, torn sleeves, key chains, body piercings, or finger rings
that may get caught in/on machinery or equipment. Hair touching
the shoulder or longer must be tied back and secured underneath
the hard hat. Facial hair must be maintained so that it does not
                                      create a hazard.

1-425 Look out for one another. Show your concern for your fellow
workers by interrupting any unsafe behavior you notice.
