technologies (ICT)".It is also defined as "a generic term covering a wide set of ICT
technologybased applications and processes, including computerbased learning,
webbased learning, virtual classrooms, digital collaboration and networking''
(Hambrecht, 2000; Kaplan Leiserso's online glossary).

The “eEurope: Promoting Digital Literacy initiative” describes it as the use of
new multimedia technologies and internet for improving the quality of learning by
means of access to resources and services, and longdistance collaborations and
exchanges. Further, the Commonwealth of Learning in 1998 described e-learning in
two ways: i) the application of information and communication technologies (ICT) to
core institutional functions such as administration, materials development and
distribution, course delivery and tuition, and the provision of learner services such as
advising, prior learning assessment and programed planning. ii) As an organization
that has been created through alliances and partnerships to facilitate teaching and
learning to occur without itself being involved as a direct provider of instruction.

From the previous studies which described that the use of technologies for the
purpose of improving the e-learning process is rapidly moving on. The rapid
technological and social change puts forward the need for lifelong learning. That is
why conventional classroom learning is not able to satisfy such needs.

This study also provides the importance of e-learning which is an increasingly
preferable alternative to conventional classroom learning. The move to conduct
teaching and learning over the Internet is rapidly gaining momentum along with the
advance of computing technology and deep researches into the pedagogical
methodology on the Internet. This study explains that e-learning has become an
important part of the routine landscape of education and training. It has been
recognized that e-learning can enable more learners to have access to the learning
materials and provide students and teachers with unprecedented flexibility and
convenience. Blackboard is one of the main tools through which students and teachers
have access to get close to each other. However, many current instructional websites
just simply deliver course materials over the Internet and do not provide effective and
efficient supports for using these materials to construct knowledge. As a result,
learners only passively receive the presented materials.

   Methodology

Method of the research is a scientific method to get the data based on a specific
purpose and function (Sugiono, 2006:1). on the one hand, based on the Indonesian
dictionary, the method of research is the regular method based on the mind to get the
purpose of the knowledge. On the other hand, the method is the way of working
systematically to make easier the implementation of the main purpose.
