35. Joseph desired to make a home in
Bethlehem, the city of David, since Jesus
was the Heir to the throne of David.
36. He learnt that Archelaus, Herod’s son,
reigned in Judea, in his father’s stead,
and he feared that he would try to do as
his father tried to do. And of all Herod’s
son, Archelaus most resembled him in
character.
37. The two reasons Nazareth, Joseph’s
former hometown, was chosen:
i. Prophecy must be fulfilled. Jesus
lived and grew up in Nazareth for
nearly thirty years fulfilling the
prophecy that “He shall be called a
Nazarene” Matthew 2:23.
ii. Galilee, the region where Nazareth
was located, had a much larger
admixture of foreign inhabitants
