king to destroy their heathen

31. Their attitude caused their rulers to

hate them and their promised Messiah.

This is what created the feelings that led

to the massacre in Bethlehem.

32. Satan tried to use the Jews’ pride to

destroy Jesus, but instead of injuring the

Christ Child, their twisted words came

back to both haunt and hurt them.

33. He was forced to face his own fearful

and horrible death. According to

Josephus, a loathsome disease-burning

fever, ulcerated entrails, foul discharges,

convulsions, stench, etc., descended

upon the ruler as a judgment from God
