28. Ramah, voice, lamentation, weeping,

mourning, Rachel, children, comforted.

29. “This calamity the Jews had brought

upon themselves.”

30. The reasons for such calamity:

i. Their unfaithfulness and pride

before God forfeited the protection

of God.

ii. They separated themselves from

Him by their sin and rejected the

Holy Spirit, their only shield.

iii. They did not study the Scriptures

with a desire to conform to the will

of God. They were only hearers of

the Word.

iv. They studied the prophecies that

could be understood to predict

glory for Israel and that indicated

how God despised all other nations.
