Meet Edwina Bower
Recently I was fortunate enough to visit the Galápagos
Islands off the coast of Ecuador. Famous for inspiring
Darwin’s Theory of Evolution, these islands were truly
incredible to explore and capture!
I had many opportunities to go snorkelling on my adventure, and
although I saw some amazing wildlife, swimming with dozens of
turtles like the one in my photo above was an absolute highlight. They
were so serene and calm swimming around or chilling on the bottom
of the sea.
Sea lions are very playful and affectionate with each other and
witnessing this was always special. I loved seeing them run up to greet
newcomers emerging from the sea. Their noticeable smell could
always be excused when you got to witness their friendly disposition.
“Galápagos traffic” took on a whole new meaning when we
encountered giant tortoises on the road on Isla Santa Cruz. The
breading program has been so successful here that there are now
hundreds back in the wild. These creatures are truly magnificent and
wandering amongst them in the highlands was an exceptional
experience.
We spent a long time watching these flamingos. They have an
amazing grace that kept us spellbound, able to stay still for so long
before ducking their heads under to catch their prey.
