                                                    Adele Manchoulas was born 1924, in Bathurst, of an Italian father and

                                                    Australian mother and spent her first school years at the family

                                                    to Paris to further her studies under a well-known Russian teacher by

                                                    the name of Olgar Preobrajenska.

                                                    Under her tutelage she entered an international competition where
                                                    she won a gold medal at the age of 13. Many newspapers spoke of this

                                                    up-and-coming ballerina as one to watch. In the course of her dancing
                                                    career she appeared at the Scala in Milan as part of the Court de
                                                    ballet.

                                                    Apart from classical ballet, she also studied flamenco dancing. During
                                                    this time, the Second World War broke out and consequently Adele
                                                    and her mother and brother were interned in Italy for three years in a
                                                    smaller town called Olive to Citra. They were very fortunate, however,

                                                    to have the generosity of the local peasants who shared what little
                                                    they had with them during difficult times. The war unfortunately
                                                    ended her promising career.

                                                    After returning home to Australia in Sydney where she was flatting
                                                    with a girlfriend, she was introduced to a dashing young French wool-
                                                    buyer at a party; (their attraction to each other was instantaneous)
                                                    and they soon married! Throughout their married life, they had two
                                                    children, travelled and enjoyed many years together.
