Apple Upside Down Cake

4 large apples, peeled and sliced
1 cup cider or apple juice
⅓ cup butter
1 cup brown sugar
1 box spice cake mix
Maraschino cherries
½ cup walnuts (chopped)
Cook apples in apple juice for 5 min or until tender. Drain and reserve juice. Melt
butter in 13x9 pan. Add ¼ cup apple juice, brown sugar and apples. Decorate with
cherries and nuts. Prepare cake according to directions, using remaining apple juice
for part of the liquid. Pour batter over apples, bake at 350 for 30-40 minutes or until
cake is done. Invert on platter. Serve warm with whipped topping.
