Method Statement
Hand Sweeping
Equipment
Personal protective equipment Warning signs/alternative route signs.
Sweeping brush / broom Scraper
Dust pan and brush
Health, Safety and Environmental Requirements
Wear personal protective clothing.
Do not leave brushes lying about.
Check brush handle is smooth, (rough handles may cause splitters)
When cleaning several rooms, pick up dust after each room.
Do not move dust from one room to another.
Tasks
1 Put on personal protective clothing.
2 Place warning signs and / or alternative route signs.
3 Ventilate the area if appropriate.
4 Remove chewing gum with a scraper.
5 Sweep using continuous stroke overlapping passes. Ensure brush head is in
contact with floor and a leading edge is maintained.
6 When sweeping large area collect dirt with pan several times.
7 Cover all areas systematically.
8 When finished, remove soil from floor with dust pan and brush. Clean brush.
9 Clean equipment and check for safety.
10 Return equipment, including warning signs, to store and close ventilation, if
appropriate.
