Week 7 answers
Here are some contracts, what is the score for each of them from your
point of view as North/South? Remember, unlike minibridge, we have
this concept of vulnerability. When you are vulnerable the gain for making
your contract is higher but so are the penalties if you fail. (In minibridge
we are always non-vulnerable).
Answer 1
North was the declarer in 2Ì vulnerable and made 4 overtricks.
As the contract made he scores 30 points for each trick that was bid
(60) and 30 points for each overtrick (120).
Because they contract was a partscore there is a bonus of 50 points.
Total 230.
Answer 2
North was the declarer in 4Ì vulnerable and made 2 overtricks.
This time declarer made the same number of tricks as answer 1 but he
declared game.
Again the contract made and so the declarer gets 30 points for each
trick bid (120) and 30 points for each overtrick (60). However, this time
game was bid and so the bonus when vulnerable is 500. Total 680.
Notice the huge difference in the score for bidding and making game.
Answer 3
North was the declarer in 6Ì vulnerable and just making.
Again the same number of tricks are made but this time a slam is
declarer.
As the contract made the declaring side score 30 for each trick bid
(180).
6Ì is above game and so they collect the vulnerable game bonus (500).
For bidding and making a vulnerable slam is 750. Total 1430
Again a huge difference from bidding the game and colossal if you
stopped in a part score. However, look at the next question.
