3.2 Global Moran’s I evaluation
Before the implementation of hot spot analysis, Global Moran’s I index was implemented to demonstrate whether the
spatial distribution of COVID-19 incidence rates was clustered or not. This analysis is based on the locations and attributed
values. Fig. 2 shows the results obtained by Global Moran’s I analysis, which describes that the spatial distribution pattern of
COVID-19 incidence rates in Iran’s provinces by October 21, 2020. The Moran’s Index of 0.30 and the z-score of 3.24 showed
that the incidence rate of COVID-19 was in the clustered pattern at the time of research. Furthermore, given the z-score of
3.24, there is a less than 1% likelihood that this clustered pattern could be the result of random chance.
