North Tabriz Fault (NTF), Gilatu-Siyah Cheshmeh-Khoy Fault and Chalderan Fault are the active faults of Azerbaijan [6].
The most obvious tectonic phenomenon in the region of Azerbaijan is the young North Tabriz Fault. NTF seismicity is located
between two fold-and-thrust belts of the Caucasus to the north and the Zagros Mountains to the south, spanning a length of
150 km in NW-SE direction in NW Iran [15]. The NTF is 40–45 km away from Ahar region in the south-southwest direction
struck by the Mw 6.5 and sequentially Mw 6.3 earthquake in August 11, 2012 [15]. Due to the length of the fault and adjacency
to the site, the NW segment of the NTF is posed to a stronger seismic hazard [6]. The city of Tabriz has been frequently
affected by destructive earthquakes of this fault [14]. Karimzadeh et al. (2013) based on statistical results and a time series
analysis of RADAR images between 2004 and 2010 showed that an earthquake with the magnitude of 7 Richter is likely to
happen in the study area as a result of strain accumulation across the NTF [15].
In this research, data related to the North Tabriz Fault, the population of urban blocks, buildings construction materials,
and the location of Tabriz hospitals were used. The data used were shown in Fig. 2.
