The simulated environment is flexible and the number of agents can be changed. In this research, various
scenarios were performed; the output of some scenarios was given in Table 2.

The results showed that in order to find victims and transport them to the hospital within 48 hours, 65000
searchers, 65000 rescuers, and 32500 medical team were needed. In addition, the results of this research showed
that even in case of assuming this fact that hospitals of Tabriz will not be affected by the earthquake, their capacity
will not be enough and needs to increase about 600% of their capacity.
5. Conclusion
Adequate number of rescuers is one of the most important factors in succeeding of rescue operations after an
earthquake. In this study, the number of rescuers was calculated using the agent-based modeling. Agent-based
live-simulations are fundamental for understanding the characteristics of the situation, the interactions, and the
cooperative activities of the actors involved in the environment. Besides, it is of importance in managing crises,
and the number of rescuers needed. In this research, we designed a computer simulator taking into account the
actors, their activities and interdependencies, as well as the environment in which agents collaborate. Our model
mimicked the observed team collaborating. To simulate the environment, first a 7-magnitude earthquake (with the
center of the North Tabriz Fault) was simulated and the amount of damages resulted for buildings was calculated as
well as the number of people killed and injured.
Result indicate that in case of occurrence of 7- magnitude earthquake, 63.8% of buildings will not be
uninhabitable (23.7% will be completely destroyed and 40.1% will face extensive destruction). The calculation of
casualties using also showed that 28.5% of people will die and 37.5% will need immediate medical attention. The
simulated environment showed that in order to rescue victims within 48 hours, 65000 searchers, 65000 rescuers,
