As she bends over to take a sip of her glass, the cat gives off a hiss, as to indicate
that she’s hasn’t moved her properly.
"What's wrong, kitty?" she says, turning the kitten over on her back.
"Ahh yeah, I’ve always wanted to go to England as well, I've never been either,"
says Mother. Her big, green eyes suddenly come alive from all the beer and the
talk of England. They have often talked about going. The last time they talked
about it, they thought about going when Ann finished seventh grade, but there’s
still another year that have to pass. They haven’t been outside of Denmark in
seven years; they only went to Jutland to mother's old boyfriend who lives in
Billund, near Legoland. The last time they were over there, Frank got so drunk
that he and Mother got into a hefty argument, almost a fight.
"My family actually from Croatia originally, but my mother and I moved to
England when I was a boy," says Janokovic.
"Well, I thought so too, because your name, Janokovic, doesn't really sound
English," says Ann proud of herself for guessing correct.
"Precisely,” says Janokovic and for the first time he smiles.
“Well, now we don't have to bother you any further. Drink up, Anny. Let’s get
going. And don’t forget your cat.”
Lissi gets up and pulls her skirt down, which keeps crawling up, she nods toa to
Ann, making a sign that they should leave.
