"What does it say on the sign there?"

"Everything looks alike around here. I can’t find-“ she interrupts her own
speech. “He said that we should go straight ahead when we got off the bus, and

then make a turn to the right, and then we would come to Strawberry Lane as we

cross the road. So… it must be here."
The walked over the cross and shortly afterwards the arrived at the destination.

Lissi and Ann stand in front of the building block, then Lissi walks to the front

door and reads the nameplates hanging to the left on a plate with transparent
                   plastic around it.

"Jano… kovic. Yeah, that’s the one." Lissi reads out loud then presses the button
                   next to the name.

"Hello," a hoarse man-voice in broken Danish answers them through the

                   speaker.
"Hi, my name is Lissi, I'm coming to pick up the cat you have for sale."

"Yeah, come in," says the hoarse voice in the speaker. There is a loud droning

buzz that’s followed by a little beep; Lissi opens the door to the entrance where
an odour of different smells meets them. Distinctive spices, roasted meat,

cleaning detergents, as well as piss.
"Wow, it really reeks in here! So many different smells."

Ann holds her nose as she makes a frown upon her face. Lissi stares at her,

shakes her head and makes a face at her, to signal that she still need to keep
                   quiet.

Janokovic stands in the doorway, waving his hand lightly at them as they walk up

                   the stairs to his floor.
"Lissi," Mother says jauntily, extending her hand.

Janokovic blinks heavily with his eyes in his pockmarked and weather-beaten

face. He is dressed in a sleeveless white T-shirt and black trousers, all held
together by a worn-out brown leather belt. He extends his hand to both of them

as he looks at them with curiosity and an inscrutable expression, that neither of

                   them capable of decoding.
At the same time, two kittens jumps towards them, then past Janokovic and

then finally to the stairs, looking down.
