"Do you want summat to drink?" he asks, while folding the bill and putting it

                   into his pocket.
Lissi nods affirmatively, answering his question only with body language, then

casting a solemn glance at her mobile phone.

"What are you offering?" she asks, pulling a little down her short skirt, which
                   keeps creeping up.

"I have coffee, cola, beer, whatever you want."

"Yes, Ann would like a Coke, and I could drink a beer," says Mom, flixing her
lipstick while using the mobile phone as a mirror.

Janokovic pushes a small clay pot containing home-rolled cigarettes across the
                   coffee table towards Lissi.

"Please smoke, if you like pre-rolled," he says.

She grabs one of the cigarettes, Janokovic walks over and sits next to her, ignites
the lighter, holding the small flame to her cigarette.

"Thanks." Mom takes a couple of puffs from the cigarette, puts the phone and

                   lipstick back in the bag.
"Wait a minute," Janokovic says, strolling out of the room.

"This place smells like piss," Ann whispers to Mom, as soon as Janokovic is out
of earshot. She has the cat on her lap and lets her eyes wander around in the

                   small apartment.

"What do you think of the cat, Mom? Don't you think it's as beautiful as we saw
                   on the picture? "

Ann caresses the kitten over its white and brown fur. It’s so small in size that in

fits in her hand, but she chooses to have it in her lap with the kitten's face facing
                   her stomach.

Lissi shows no particular interest in the situation, as she looks out over the

messy living room with a distant look in her eyes.
"Yes, Ann, it is, but you are going to be in charge of everything, the litter box,

food and so on. I don’t have time to look after it, you know,” she replies, looking

as if she would rather be at a very different place this moment.
                     “Here are the refreshments.”

Janokovic enters the room with a small tray with three large glasses and two
beers, and in his hand he carries a big bottle of cheap soda, he places it the worn-
