After he is done bathing, he leaves the shower with jolting movements and
heads towards the old window and opens it; there is a hasp missing on it.
When opening the window, you have to, with one hand, hold firmly against the
window frame at the top as an extra support while pulling the window up with a
hard movement. Jack has shown them both how to do it.
As Jano opens the window, he hears Jack starting his blue Ford Transit. It has to
be ignited in two turns; it’s something to do the engine, he says. It jolts and jolts,
and there is a hollow bump as the engine starts. Jack gases up the car with the
speeder pushed all the way down to the car-floor. He repeats this a few times,
until it gets the oil around. People in the neighbourhood have often complained
about the noise it makes, but Jack’s response is just, "It's an old model. You have
to learn to live with it."
People love Jack a lot. He's popular because he knows people, and he sells
things for the townsfolk so they can make a living. Mom is also quite fond of him.
She thinks her life have gotten way better. Jack also procures things, and he can
do it cheaply. Somehow Janokovic also thinks his life has improved after Mom
met Jack almost six years ago; at the time he was only ten years old, and they had
just arrived in England.
As Jano returns to the room, fear overwhelms him. The thoughts spin around in
his head, driving him mad. He quickly puts on a pair of freshly washed jeans that
Mom had put out in a pile of clean clothes. He swears loudly. How did the police
get the notion that it was a gang-thing? Who could have seen him? After all, it
was dark when he cut the wires. He can't stand the thought of Mom and Jack
finding out that he had something to do with it. After all, it wasn't his intention
that people got hurt. He didn’t kill anyone. The mayhem must have happened
after he left.
“How could it go so wrong?” Jano asks himself.
Shirtless, he walks downstairs, as he’s thinking to call the other and tell them
about his thoughts. He wants know what they’re up. He then suddenly decides to
wait; they can call him too, not just always him.
