                                                                                                                               Jamdu Church (changed to Ganghwa Central Methodist
                                                            memorial stone of martyrs                                          Church in 1975)  started in a house led by Jo Seon-
                                                                                                                               il and his wife Lee Salome in 1900, in Gyeonggi-
                                                                                                                               do. The church established “Jamdu Ui Sook (蠶頭義
                                                                                                                               塾) ” as a new educational institution in April 1901,
                                                                                                                               and started to educate people based on Christian
                                                                                                                               beliefs by establishing another girls’ school, “Habil
                                                                                                       A Big Person
                                                                                                                               Girls' School” in 1902.
                                                                                                                               Later, these two schools merged into one school,
            Ganghwa Central Methodist Church                                                                                   which has developed into today’s Habil Elementary
                                                                                                                               School. This school has been the birthplace of
                                        Centennial Monument of Ganghwa Central Methodist Church                                the national movement and the enlightenment of
                                                                                                                               Korea against the Japanese rule.

            Jamdu Church began with the first service led by Jo Seon-il, his wife Lee Salome at
            the house of Jo Seon-il on September 1, 1900. In 1914, it was changed from ‘Jamdu
            Church’ to ‘Ganghwa-eup Church’, and in November 1975, it was renamed ‘Ganghwa
                                                                                                   Habil Elementary School
            Central Church’. Ganghwa Central Church established “Jamdu Ui Sook (蠶頭義塾) ” as a new
            educational institution in April 1901, and started to educate people based on Christian
            beliefs by establishing another girls’ school, “Habil Girls’ School” in 1902.
            Later, the two schools merged into one school, which has developed into today’s Habil
            Elementary School. This school has been the birthplace of the national movement and
            the enlightenment of Korea against the Japanese rule. As the Korean Army under Japan
            was dispersed by the outbreak of Ganghwa righteous armies in August 1907, the Japanese
            military arrested the members of the Jamdu Church: Kim Dong-soo, his younger brother
            Kim Young-gu, and his cousin Kim Nam-soo as the riot leaders, and executed them with a                             an independent activist and the second Prime Minister of the
                                                                                                                              Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea, Yi Dong-hwi
            Japanese knife at Deorimi Beach on the way to Seoul.
