The Korean Christian Holiness Church began in 1907 under the name of “Oriental
Entrance of Sungkyul University
Missionary Society Evangelical Preaching House” when two people, Kim Sang-joon
and Jeoung Bin, returned home after graduating from the Bible Institute of Oriental
Mission in Tokyo, Japan. From the time of founding, four major titles of regeneration,
holiness (sanctification) , divine healing, the second coming have been emphasized. Seoul
Theological University started as a “Bible Academy” in Mugyo-dong, Seoul by the Oriental
Mission Society in 1911, and John Thomas was the first president. In 1921, the school
moved to Chungjeong-ro. Some of the buildings of the time remain on the grounds of
Ahyun Holiness Church, but they are in danger of being destroyed by the new chapel
construction plan. The school was approved as a vocational school in May 1940 and

reorganized into a four-year Kyungsung Theological Seminary, but in 1943, it was closed
by Japan's oppression due to the rejection of shrine visits and the insistence of the Second
Coming doctrine.
In 1959, it evolved to Seoul Theological Seminary and Lee Myeong-jic was appointed
as the first provost. Pastor Kim Eungjo of Jesus Korea Sungkyul Church and Pastor Lee Memorial Monument of Pastor Kim Eungjo
Myeong-jic of Korea Evangelical Holiness Church are compared to the two great men of
Holiness Church in Korea. Seoul Theological Seminary moved to its current location in
1974, and changed its name to Seoul Theological University in 1992. The Korea Evangelical “A university leading the
