Hanshin University was established
in 1940 by its founder Kim Dae-
hyun under the name “Chosun University Headquarters
Theological Seminary.” It changed
its name to “Korean Theology
College” in 1951. Hanshin University
is famous for its academic
background of progress and
practice.

to democratization. Hyupsung University began on February 7, 1977 when the executive branch of Korean
Methodist Church decided to establish “Seoul Methodist Theological Seminary.” Sangdong
Church was used as a school building and opened as Seoul Methodist Theological Seminary
on April 1, 1977. In March 1982, the Korean Methodist Church decided to integrate the six
seminaries established into the “Hyupsung Methodist Seminary.” Accordingly, a new school
building was built and opened in Namyangju-gun, Gyeonggi-do.
Then, on December 31, 1988, the school was transferred to Bongdam Campus, and on
November 15, 1991, it was approved to change its name to “Hyupsung Theological College.”
