sacrificed while organizing the Cheorwon Patriotic Corps to conduct anti-communist
movement immediately after liberation, and there is a monument to patriotic fighters.
There is a monument to the martyrdom of Pastor Seo Gi-hun on the left side of the church
and there is a memorial tower for cherishing the souls of patriots in the back garden.
The tower was built to apologize by descendants who took the lead in Communist activities
during the war, but they also engraved their father's and grandfather's names. The
villagers realized the fact at the unveiling ceremony and corrected the list of inscriptions by
removing only the parts with their names engraved on the tower. It was a ridiculous event
that informed us that Cold War relics could lead to historical distortion. The mother church
of Jangheung Church is Cheorwon Methodist Church. Pastor Seo Gi-hun, the pastor of
Janheung Church, was an advisor to Agency of the Korean Youth, which was a front for
anti-communist group and was martyred by the communist army at the age of 70. The
Chinese characters engraved on the side of the martyrdom monument are impressive.
