        not just like scissors that are similar to a blade. This is for two    ’א ,הזב אכיא ימעט ירתו ,רעת ןיעכ םירפסמ
        reasons:                                         ’ב ,קספהל בשחנ אל ,הזכ קד קספהד םושמ
        1) Such a fine separation is not considered a separation at all.    םינפה רועב עגונ חלגמה ןיכסהש ,שוחל שיד
        2) One must be concerned that the blade touches the skin    םינוקה  תרבח  לש  החמומה  תששחכ  ,ומצע
        itself, in accordance with the concern of the expert from the
        consumer’s bureau mentioned above [not included in the    הדומ ל”ז צ”פרגה םגו – ,ונירבד שארב רכזנכ
        section quoted].                                 ותבושתב  שרפמ  רדהו  אנת  רשאכ  ,הזב
        And even the Gaon Rav Tzvi Pesach Frank zt”l agrees to this,    ,בתכש  ,םש  בקעי  תקלח  רפסב  ספדנה
        as he stated and explained in his responsum that was printed   ל”י ,יעשמל חלגמש הרוה ןויסנהש הנוכמבד
        in the sefer Chelkat Yaakov, where he wrote regarding a shaver   עדוי ימ ,רבד אמע המ יזח קופו …רעת ונייהד
        that experience shows that it cuts very smoothly, one can say   םא  ,ונל  עמשי  ימו  ,קדהל  אלש  ,הזב  רהזהל
        that this is considered an actual blade… And go out and see    יאש רבד טעמכ אוה ףאו ,הז לע ותוא ריהזנ
        what the people do; does anyone really know how to be so    ךומס  קודיה  י”ע  אלש  חולגל  ,רהזהל  רשפא
        careful not to use so closely, and who will listen to us if we    ’יהיו ,רהזיהל תורשפאב ’יהי םא ףאו ,רשבל
        warn him about this? And furthermore it is almost impossible    אוה  לולע  יאדוב  לבא  ,הזב  םיקדקדמ  הזיא
        to be careful to shave without placing it so close to the skin.
        And even if it is possible to be careful, and there will be some    תושעלו  לשכיהל  ,’יתדיבעב  דירטד  אנדיעב
        that are careful about it, surely at a time when a person is busy    םתסל וששח גארפ ימכח םאו ,רוסאה ןפואב
        with his work, he will falter and do so in the prohibited fashion.    יוהד ףא ,רוסאה ןפואב השעי אמליד ,םירפסמ
        Now if the Sages of Prague were concerned about using regular   רימחהל שיד ש”כמ .ל“נכ אחיכש אלד אתלימ
        scissors that one might use them in the prohibited fashion,    ,ארתיהב  חיכש  אל  ,ךופיהל  יוהד  ,ןדיד  ןודנב

        even though that is not a common mistake, how much more   …ל”נכ רשבהל הנוכמה קדהל אלש רהזיש
        so do we need to be stringent in this regard where it is the    ,ל”ז  א”זחה  ןואגה  םשב  יל  רמאנש  המ  ןכו
        opposite, that the usage in a permitted way is uncommon,
        that one would be careful not to place the shaver too close    רפיסש ,ל”נה א”טילש השמ יבר ןואגה איבה

        Similarly what was stated in the name of the Gaon the Chazon    ומצעב לאשש ,א”טילש ןמרב חנ ברה י”ותב

        Rav Noach Berman, who asked the Chazon Ish if the rumor   לכל רוסיא והז קר ,ןוכנ אלש בישהו ,ירטקלא
        is true that he said that those who fear G-d should not use    ילוא ,דוע לאש ז”עו ,דבל םימש אריל אלו ,דחא
        an electric shaver, and the Chazon Ish answered that it was    בישהו רוסאל שי דבל קיש הנוכמבו ,קלחל שי
        not true. Rather, it is a prohibition for everyone and not    ךלכלש  ,חוליג  תוינוכמב  תונויסנ  השע  רבכש
        just those who fear G-d. And he [Rav Noach] asked further    תומוקמב יקנ השענו ,הנוכמב חליגו ,וידב דיה
        that perhaps one can distinguish [between different shavers]
        and only prohibit the “Schick” brand, but he answered that    ,רעתכ הוהו ,רשבב עגונש חכומ כ”עו ,םינוש
        he had already done experiments with a few shavers by           .ד”כע והלכב רוסאל שיו
        putting ink on his hand and shaving over it and the ink
        disappeared in many places, proving that it touches the
        skin and it is like a razor and therefore all are prohibited.



        8.   The Minchat Yitzchak here is referring to an opinion mentioned by the Chatam Sofer (in source #11 above, elsewhere in the responsum) of the
           Sages of Prague who were stringent not to use scissors at all, due to the concern of the Terumat HaDeshen that one may use only the bottom blade
