HORIZON, 2020-21
As gregarious creatures who thrive on community
and function through communication, everything
we knew about how to lead our lives changed
within months.
It’s hard to believe that we are still battling this
virus and even harder to imagine the plight of
those who have had to experience its harrowing
effects firsthand. But whether or not you were
personally affected by COVID, it’s safe to say that
everyone out there adapted themselves and their
lives to meet the status quo. As recent high school
graduates, we walked out of school excited to
begin a new journey of discovery but were soon
forced to change all our plans and wait in constant
trepidation for some clarity regarding our futures.
We spent months in lockdown wondering when the
virus strain would die down and we would be able
to travel to college and begin the next phase of our
lives. At long last, the virus began to taper slightly
and our results were announced.
We were now engaged in a frantic race to
complete our application process and secure a
good college for ourselves. Many of us were
unable to join our dream college and many others
were forced to take a gap year and wait in hope
for the virus to pass. Soon, our next hurdle was
presented. Online learning was a herculean task. It
was beyond tough on both the teacher as well as
the student to adapt to this method of un
