Chester County Food Bank | LCH The Oxford Project, Oxford, PA
■Project name and owner: Chester County Food Bank | La Comunidad Hispana The Oxford Project
■Year completed: Currently in design. Anticipated completion 2022-2023.
■Building type: The Chester County Food Bank and LCH (La Comunidad Hispana) Oxford
Project represented a collaborative effort between two organizations in
Chester County who, respectively, manage and distribute food for those
in need and serve the needs of all low-income residents in the community
through person-centered, integrated services. The goal of the Oxford
Project was creating a 30,000 square foot community center to provide
integrated and comprehensive services for the Oxford community.
Although space would be dedicated to each of these community resources,
the synergy of the two organizations enabled consideration of shared
spaces including community rooms, a community garden, and building
operations and maintenance. The space needs included a food pantry,
educational kitchen to promote healthy eating, warehouse space, and
exam room/consultation space for healthcare and counseling services.
Bernardon provided pro-bono design services to assist CCFB and LCH in
the development of a space needs analysis, evaluating alternative sites in
Southern Chester County, and developing conceptual plans to facilitate
decision making and community approval.
