Tower Atrium and Multipurpose Audion at STAR Campus, Newark, DE
■Project name and owner: Tower Atrium and Multipurpose Audion for University of Delaware (UD)
■Year completed: 2018
■Building type: Bernardon provided design services for the STAR Tower, a public-private
partnership between the University of Delaware and Delle Donne &
Associates. The 10-story building is located at UD’s STAR (Science,
Technology, and Advanced Research) Campus. The Tower is connected to
an existing two-story University building by a large Atrium functioning as
an indoor “street”. Walking through this space showcases a demonstration
kitchen, collaborative workspace, an exercise science gym, a maker space,
and outdoor plaza space. All of these pieces lead to the Audion, which is a
state-of-the-art multipurpose presentation space that accommodates up to
300 people. The Atrium and Audion total 21,860 SF.

The Pond’s Edge Cafe at Crosslands
■Project name and owner: The Pond’s Edge Cafe at Crosslands
■Year completed: 2021
■Building type: The Pond’s Edge Café not only provides a welcoming dining room where
residents can be social with eye-catching views of the vista of trees and the
pond, but also options for take-out and grab-n-go for the diner who chooses
to eat at their residence. The new state-of-the-art Café includes a hearth oven
for versatility, an exhibition station that cooks with induction heat enabling
it to be a mini grill and burner at the same time, and delicatessen with
grocery refrigeration area. The color palette throughout integrates warm
and cool colors accented by warm wood tones giving the space a timeless
and sophisticated ambiance while maintaining a farmhouse modern appeal.
