Project: Cage Washer and Autoclave Replacement
Abramson Research Center
Client: The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia
Project Area: 2,000 s.f. (Cage Wahing Suite)
Autoclave Rooms Throughout Building
Construction: Summer 2012 (Autoclaves)
Fall 2013 (Cage Washer & Tunnel Washer)
The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHoP) planned
to replace two existing cage washing units on the second
fl oor of the Abramson Research Center (ARC). Shared
Autoclaves on eight fl oors of Abramson were also
replaced. The existing cage wash units and autoclaves
were original to the building (1995) and nearing the end
of their useful life cycle.
During the Evaluation Phase, Zimmerman Studio & our
design team compared the existing confi guration and
infrastructure to the requirements for the new equipment.
Drawings were developed to document the modifi cations
needed to accommodate the new equipment and their
required services.
The installation of a new tunnel washer was also
included in the project scope. Partitions and doors were
reconfi gured to support an expanded unit.
Construction within the Cage Washing facility occurred
in two phases to allow CHoP to use a portion of the
facility at all times.
