Let me give you some of the companies that have done this in
history and those still doing it now. Henry Ford spent over 12 years
experimenting with building a car and finally, he managed to get it
to drive from A to B under its own power. As soon as he was happy
with the functionality and performance of the car, he turned his
attention to the potential customers. He wanted to make a car that
would be affordable for most men. He also ensured that the
customers don’t have the need to buy another car because his
design is meant to last for a very long time. This is a man obsessed
with customer value above everything else. After his satisfaction
that the product is of the highest quality at the time, he turned his
attention to cost reduction. As a result of his intense study of the
process of manufacturing, he discovered the assembly line. He
was able to reduce cost consistently year after year whilst
improving the quality of the cars. He said business is not about
making a profit, but it is a service to the community and when this
service is of the highest quality, the community will reward the
enterprise with patronage. As a testament to this, his business
grew from making thousands of cars annually to making
thousands of cars daily. The money came so fast that he said
himself that it was beyond his own imagination. He didn't focus on
the money, he left competitors in the dust and that brand is still
alive today after more than a century of existence because of the
‘value innovation' as you have seen in the diagram above.
If you are thinking that this methodology can only work in
manufacturing, then you are wrong. Let me give you an example
